Today over 60 million people across the globe woke up in fear of being injured or killed by landmines. You are very priviledged, if it was not you. Antipersonnel landmines claim victims across the globe each day. Number of people being killed or maimed by these indiscriminate weapons remains high – and rising. Landmines, are triggered by civilians and children. The number of child victims of landmines last year has increased. Children account for 54 percent of all civilian casualties! Landmines are inhumane and indiscriminate weapons that kill in war and peacetime. They still cause great fear in communities and are one of the most serious barriers to development. We invite you to be a part of the One Mine One Life community and create a butterfly effect. Speak up about your disaagrement with the concept of inhumane weapons of war – landmines.Educate about landmines and landmine victims. Support demining organisations and work of the brave people who risk their life to clear the world from landmines.
We should be the last generation to suffer the effects of the “underground devil” and create a safe world for the next generations! One Mine One Life is a social movement initiated by International Peace Ambassador Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha, A global anti-landmine advocate. She is patron of the Cambodia Landmine Museum, Cambodian Self Help Demining, and the Landmine Relief Fund.
She is the initiator of the “One Mine One Life” campaign, head of the board of the international organization Geopolitical Women’s Alliance, awarded many times in the world for her LONG-standing humanitarian activities, among others by the organisations of the former UN Peacekeepers. In December 2021 she was awarded in Kiev for her longstanding humanitarian activity.
A worldwide movement ‘One Mine One Life’ represents the generation of change makers. Inspired by anti-landmine activist Princess Diana, they continue the action of raising awareness about landmines and demining the world.
Medium term impacts may include a deterioration on soil composition preventing cultivation lands to return to levels of agricultural production prior to a landmine explosion. Due to climate change, severe tropical storms and flooding were reported to have caused explosive items to move. In the future, areas previously considered as a low priority for survey and clearance may now need to be re-prioritized or targeted if they are more vulnerable to climate change. That is why quick and effective demining is a priority to save lives.
The aim of the event is to put attention to the problem of land mines that cause injuries and deaths of people all over the world every day. The number of children who fell victim to landmines in the past year has increased significantly (children account for 54 percent of all civilian casualties).
One Mine One Life invites you to join the community of people who want to create the butterfly effect together. We would like to express our disagreement with the concept of inhuman warfare and educate about its effects and everyday victims – children – who, if they experience a meeting with a face, will be injured, lose their recada or legs, experience enormous trauma and require rehabilitation until the end of their lives, for which they very rarely have chances.
The panel organized by Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha will be attended by representatives of 7 countries – the United States, France, Ukraine, Great Britain, Cambodia, Iran and Poland.
The event will be held as an accompanying event to the Session on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York (USA) on March 21, 2022 at 23:00 Polish time.
