This week, Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha delivered several dozen protective medical suits to the hospital in Radecznica. In these challenging times, we need to help each other the best we can. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Please, remember to express appreciation and gratitude for these everyday heroes – frontline workers – doctors, nurses, paramedics, and health care workers. The history of the Independent Public Provincial Psychiatric Hospital in Radecznica is connected with the history of the Sanctuary of St. Antoni Padewski and the church and monastery of O.O. Bernardines. The hospital was established in 1950 as a result of the arrest of the fathers and brothers of the order under the pretext of their hostile activity against the Polish People’s Republic. In a show and widely publicized trial, the Military Court in Lublin sentenced the monks to many years of imprisonment. One hundred and fifty mentally ill patients were placed in the monastery rooms. The hospital was expanded, more patients were added. In the early 1960s, along with the expansion of the hospital, the communist authorities allowed the Bernardine Fathers to return the buildings and rooms unnecessary to the hospital.
