Today we celebrate the birthday of HRH Prince of Wales, who was born on June 21.
Prince William and Prince Harry were raised at Kensington Palace in London, and Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.
Whenever I visit London I lay flowers at the gate of Kensington Palace to pay tribute to Princess Diana for her tireless’s work and dedication for demining action, anti-landmine campaign, and humanitarian work.
After the People’s Princess Diana died in 1997, the outpouring of grief saw many locations in London covered in tributes of flowers, gifts, and cards. An astonishing 60 million flowers were left for the princess at her former home, Kensington Palace. In that year the whole population of the UK was only 47 million.
Princess Diana led a campaign for a worldwide ban on landmines. During the trip to Angola, she walked through a recently cleared minefield, putting her safety at risk. After that, she became the voice of those who were wounded and physically broken by landmines. She worked on behalf of charities around the world.
„The world is too little aware of the waste of life, limb, and land which anti-personnel landmines are causing among some of the poorest people on earth. Indeed, until my journey to Angola early this year – on which I am going to speak this morning – I was largely unaware of it too”
