Angelika Jarosławska Sapieha was deeply honored to be a part of Peacekeepers Live by Peace One Day in London. It was a precious conversation about humanitarian action, the global anti-landmine campaign, and the importance of peace education. For many years, she had the honor of working in the humanitarian field with many brave and devoted UN Peacekeepers.
Their sacrifice and dedication make the world a better place. We are grateful to Peace One Day for highlighting the work of many humanitarians around the globe.
On the International Day of UN Peacekeepers with the United Nations, we pay tribute to all the men and women who have served as military, police, or civilians in peace operations.
For 76 years, United Nations peacekeepers have worked to save and change lives in the world’s most fragile political and security situations. Since 1948, more than two million uniformed and civilian personnel have helped countries to transition from war to peace. Today, more than 70,000 peacekeepers serve in 11 missions deployed in hotspots around the world.
Peace One Day and its founder Jeremy Gilley have done incredible work toward promoting peace and exposing people around the world to the message of Peace Day.
Due to the Peace One Day’s efforts, a General Assembly resolution was unanimously adopted by UN member states, establishing 21 September as an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace – Peace Day.
